Sponsored by the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences’ Hub for Teaching and Learning Excellence, join Dr. Genevieve Newton, Associate Professor in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, and Dr. Jennifer Reniers, Educational Analyst in the Office of Teaching and Learning, as they unpack and discuss both the challenges and benefits of formative student evaluation of teaching (SETs) as a tool to inform instructor teaching practices.

Guelph Institute of Development studies and Arrell Food Institute present: Timothy A. Wise takes us on a journey to understand the prevalence of hunger amid plenty. If the world has record levels of grain production, why does it also have rising indices of hunger and malnutrition? Wise shows how increasing the industrial production of agricultural commodities does almost nothing for the world’s hungry but, oddly enough, can even make things worse.  

The Department of Political Science and the Courts & Politics Research Group presents a Book Talk by Professor Kent Roach on his recently published book: Canadian Justice, Indigenous Injustice: The Gerald Stanley and Colten Boushie Case. Informed and timely, Canadian Justice, Indigenous Injustice is a searing account of one case that provides valuable insight into criminal justice, racism and the treatment of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Sharpe Twenty years as a Court of Appeal judge; former Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto; and author of a number of well-regarded books, Justice Robert J. Sharpe is an expert in the Canadian judicial system. Justice Sharpe will share some of his experiences and discuss how judges should, and do, make decisions in Canada’s liberal democratic system.
