Celebrating 20 Years Over its 20-year history, the Centre for Families, Work and Well-being led and collaborated on significant projects that influenced policy and programs, motivated workplaces and communities to adapt to the changing needs of individuals and families, fostered interdisciplinary research and provided new ways of learning for students and communities. We are proud to celebrate and honour 20 years of research innovation and impact.

Lunch and Learn: Strategic Evaluation Trends

The Hub for Teaching and Learning Excellence, the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute, the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, and the Kinross Chair in Environmental Governance are co-hosting a lunch and learn session about the trends and opportunities in the world of strategic evaluation. Program evaluation – the use of social research approaches to make evidence based decisions about programs – is changing in complex ways. Guest speakers will share how evaluation can be utilized to inform research excellence and academic programs.

Academia and Freedom of Speech: A Comparative Perspective

Scholars at Risk (SAR) is a global network that advocates for academic freedom worldwide and connects vulnerable scholars with universities seeking to host them. Dr. Evren Altinkas is the first visiting professor who has joined the University of Guelph through the SAR network. In this lecture, he will provide comparative historical insights about academics in Europe, North America, and the Middle East to address the issue of academic freedom.

Lunch and Learn: Challenging Traditional Pedagogy

Presented by the Hub for Teaching and Learning Excellence The Hub for Teaching and Learning Excellence is hosting a lunch and learn session to learn through a student lens about the development of co-constructed learning spaces. Students will share an experience where they were challenged to “rethink the human” by centering on the lives and experiences of queerness, disability, people of colour, fatness, and other marginalized bodies to meaningfully engage theoretical and applied learnings in the classroom environment.
