Join us as we establish one of the University's largest community-facing centres.

Canadian children, youth, adults, and families face substantial mental health challenges. One in five Canadians experience a mental health issue. Critically, 70% of adults trace the origins of their issues to childhood and in Canada 1.2 million children and youth are affected by mental health difficulties.

The University of Guelph plays an important role in the societal need to improve mental health and plays an integral role in developing new mental health professionals such as Couple and Family Therapists, Psychotherapists and Psychologists.

The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences two graduate programs have an on-site clinic where students offer services to individuals and families in Guelph and the surrounding area. We have combined these clinics into one integrative hub. It will afford researchers and clinicians in both fields opportunities to collaborate with one another and to bring forward diverse perspectives to enhance knowledge.

Maplewoods Centre for Family Therapy and Child Psychology will become the largest community facing Centre at the University of Guelph. It will also:

  • Train students to become future leaders in mental health.
  • Serve the mental health needs of community members.
  • Promote interdisciplinary clinical research partnerships.

U of G is embarking on a fundraising campaign supporting the three critical areas of teaching, research and facilities. There is clear need for cutting-edge psychological and therapeutic training focused on children, youth, couples and families. The Mental Health Commission of Canada identified prevention and early intervention as keys to addressing the mental health challenges of Canadians.

Maplewoods Centre for Family Therapy and Child Psychology at the University of Guelph and our partners can play an integral role in researching new treatments and training new mental health professionals such as Couple and Family Therapists, Psychotherapists and Psychologists.

Opportunities for support include student support, the assessment fund, and naming opportunities for the renovated space. To make a donation, or to discuss how your support can transform Maplewoods Centre, contact our Alumni and Development team:
