The Harshman Lecture Series is a speaker series presented by the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition in honour of the late Dr. J. P. Harshman and in recognition of the contributions of the Harshman Foundation. The Lecture Series are free, community wide events, with speakers discussing issues relevant to families.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Kathy Kortes-Miller, as Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work and the Palliative Care Research Lead at the Centre for Education and Research on Aging and Health at Lakehead University.
Dr. Kortes-Miller will be presenting, "Talking about death won't kill you!" Dr. Kathy Kortes-Miller is committed to showing people that talking with family about death and dying won't kill you. Using stories and research, Kathy extends an invitation to view death as not a taboo subject - but rather a shared life experience. She will explain that death is not a medicalized event but a social process and will offer some practical suggestions for having discussions about dying with those we love.
