Sexual Violence and the Law: A Conversation with a Crown Attorney
We’re proud to announce the 1st session of the 2024-2025 CJiP (Criminal Justice in Practice) Speaker Series
Join our guest speaker Crown Attorney Julia Forward as we explore how Canada’s criminal justice system handles sexual violence, focusing on the legal, procedural, and ethical complexities faced by lawyers. This talk will explore how Canada’s criminal justice system responds to sexual violence, with a focus on the legal, procedural, and ethical complexities faced by lawyers. We will examine both the strengths and shortcomings of the adversarial system in addressing these deeply sensitive cases.
Julia Forward has been a Crown with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General since 2004. She completed her law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School with a focus in criminal law. She articled at Crown Law Office – Criminal in Toronto. Since then, she has worked in trial offices in Toronto, Kitchener, Guelph, and Stratford. Currently, she is the Crown Attorney for Wellington County.
This event is open to all CSAHS students at the University of Guelph, with priority given to CJPP undergraduate and graduate students.
