Fall semester is nearly upon us, and U of G is gearing up for the move-in of more than 4,000 new undergraduate students to residences across campus.

Residence move-ins will take place over three days, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

Saturday, Sept. 1 is not only official move-in day, but it also marks the kickoff of Orientation Week. Move-ins on Sept. 1 run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In order to efficiently manage traffic in and around the campus, Gordon Street will be closed during move-in between Stone Road and College Avenue. Expect heavier than normal traffic on Stone Road, College Avenue, University Avenue, Smith Lane and Victoria Road. The following University-owned roads will be inaccessible except to move-in traffic: McGilvray Road, South Ring Road, East Ring Road and Dundas Lane. Buses will not travel onto the campus during move-in.

Official Move-in Day kicks off U of G’s Orientation Week.

Vehicles on campus should be removed from the following parking lots during move-in: P31 (University’s main entrance), P8,  P9, P11 (flanking Mountain, Prairie and Maritime halls), P19 (north side of College Avenue), P21 (Lambton Hall), P44 (Johnston Hall), P20 (Lennox-Addington), P16 and P18 (Dundas Lane) or P26 (Dairy Barn/Guelph Food Technology Centre). Parking on East Ring Road or McGilvray Street should also be avoided.

Anyone without official U of G business is advised to avoid campus Sept. 1.

Cyclists and pedestrians travelling on Gordon Street are strongly advised to exercise caution at major intersections, especially South Ring Road and College Avenue.

All students have been assigned a scheduled move-in time, route and holding location for residence unloading zones. Volunteers will be on hand to help new students with move-in.

Early move-on on Friday, Aug. 31 will likely cause congestion along the ring roads and increased use of parking lots, particularly those adjacent to residence halls. Move-in day for upper-year students occurs Sunday, Sept. 2.
