Faculty Advising and Mentorship Awards
These awards recognize faculty who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and skill in guiding, mentoring, and supporting their graduate students' academic, personal, and professional growth. Two awards are presented each year: the Tenured Faculty Advising and Mentorship Award and the Early Career Faculty Advising and Mentorship Award.
Tenured Faculty Graduate Advising and Mentorship Award

Dr. Carolyn Yule is the 2024 recipient of the Tenured Faculty Graduate Advising and Mentorship Award, which recognizes faculty members demonstrating outstanding mentorship and advising of graduate students through positive student outcomes, engagement in scholarly activities with students, and a longstanding commitment to fostering inclusive excellence through mentorship.
Yule was nominated for her exceptional dedication, innovative advising approach, and unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity in the SOAN Department and beyond. Through her leadership, she has cultivated a collaborative and supportive environment that enhances her students’ professional and academic growth.
Students have expressed deep appreciation for Yule’s academic integrity, professionalism, and ethical guidance. She is widely recognized for her genuine care and respect for her students, cultivating an environment where they thrive academically, personally, and professionally. Yule exemplifies the kind of leadership that fosters a supportive space for student growth, making the graduate school experience both intellectually rigorous and deeply enriching.

Early Career Faculty Graduate Advising and Mentorship Award

Dr. Tuğçe Ellialti-Köse is the 2024 recipient of the Early Career Faculty Graduate Advising and Mentorship Award, which recognizes faculty who are pre-tenured in a tenure-track or Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA).
Ellialti-Köse was nominated for her exceptional dedication to guiding and supporting the academic, personal, and professional growth of her graduate students. Her life-changing mentorship and unwavering commitment to fostering inclusion and diversity—both in the classroom and beyond—create a supportive learning environment where each student feels valued and empowered to contribute meaningfully to their community.
Deeply invested in her students’ success, Ellialti-Köse recognizes the importance of responsiveness to ensure they feel supported, understood, and heard. Her approach is not just about timely responses—it is defined by kindness, empathy, and attention to detail, making students feel truly valued.
Ellialti-Köse is also an active participant in the CSAHS’s Graduate Mentorship Program (GMP), which supports Black, Indigenous, and racialized graduate students. Her dedication to mentorship within this program has been recognized by the College, further highlighting her remarkable impact on students' academic, professional, and personal journeys.
