In a lecture on her award-winning book, Erin Tolley
(University of Toronto) argues that race influences
electoral news coverage and politics in Canada. Dr. Tolley
shows that racial minority politicians receive more negative
and less prominent media coverage than their white
counterparts. She argues that this is a function of
racialized assumptions, institutional biases, and
organizational norms that undermine Canada’s commitment
to inclusive democracy.
