The Arrell Food Institute is awarding two prizes worth $125,000 each for individuals or groups who have made significant contributions toward a more sustainable, safe, equitable and nutritious global food system.
Global hunger has dropped each year between 2005 and 2016 and development officials were considering that we could be on our way to eradicating hunger. However, this year showed a 4.5 per cent increase in those experiencing daily hunger, which is an increase of 38 million people. The increase is because of conflict and climate change.

There are several reasons that prevent lower-income people from accessing these foods, ranging from higher prices, to social stigma, to geography.
