Canadian National Parks, protected areas and ‘wild' spaces have long played an important role in Canadian national imagination. In 2017, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to visit these places and reflect on their importance to Canada during this 150th anniversary of confederation. This national conversation is taking place at the same time that Canada is trying to formulate a plan to meet its international commitments for protected area coverage and while Canadians increasingly recognize the colonial foundations of protected area establishment and planning.
This panel event, featuring esteemed speakers with expertise in environmental issues, will build on this conversation and help the audience reflect on the strengths, challenges and opportunities for conservation in Canada.
