Policy changes in contentious policy areas tend spark fierce debates that touch on essential aspects of democratic legitimacy and citizenship. This panel explores the relationship between recent changes in the regulation of sex work and assisted dying and debates over democratic governance in Canada.

Speakers:

Dr. Anna Drake (she/her) is an associate Professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo.

Title of presentation: "When protection isn't the point: Sex work, the Protection of Communities and Exploitation Act (PCEPA), and democratic equality."


Dr. Thomas McMorrow is an associate Professor of Legal Studies at Ontario Tech University.

Title of presentation: “Charter Rights, Democracy, and the Legitimization of Medically Assisted Death.”
