Join the Department of Sociology and Anthropology for a seminar featuring guest speaker Dr. Sylvia Bawa, Associate Professor of Sociology at York University.

How can global human rights discourses move us away from traditional ways of thinking about progress and social justice? How do decolonization and self-determination related to solidarity rights call us to think about our existence in relation to each other?

In this seminar, Dr. Bawa will explore our duty to be in solidarity with others as our intertwined lives are a part of a common humanity. She argues that third-generation or solidary rights expand our understanding of traditional human rights in ways that bring the focus to our shared relationship with each other, with the potential to improve our ability to uphold these rights.
