The University of Guelph DRiVE laboratory is seeking to collaborate with researchers at the University of Guelph interested in driving-related areas of research such as driver safety, driver performance, development of in-vehicle technologies and other medical and commercial applications.

Headed by Professors Lana Trick (Psychology), Michele Oliver (Engineering) and Andrew Hamilton-Wright (Computer Science), this state-of-the-art research facility is housed in the Engineering building.  It is a suite of testing rooms containing a full Oktal driving simulator – a car body surrounded by viewing screens that immerse drivers in a 300-degree wrap-around virtual reality driving environment and a Mikrolar moving base platform that affords six-degrees of freedom motion.

The simulator can be programmed to produce a variety of different driving environments and weather conditions. It can also be programmed to emulate different types of autonomous vehicles. The simulator monitors many aspects of driving performance, steering, speed and hazard response. It is augmented by a 12-camera VICON motion capture system and electromyography which permits measurement of devices used in the vehicle.

We cordially invite you to find out more about the capabilities of the simulator and available research opportunities.
